There used to be a doctor in Delhi who used to practice medicine in his clinic. He had a small family, wife, and daughter along with doctor used to stay in their abode close to the clinic. The doctor had a unique habit wrt the way he used to charge his patients for consultation. Everyday, Before starting from home, the wife would hand over a list of things which she would ask him to get for that day. The doctor would carry the list to his clinic, sit at his desk, open the list in front of the idol of his deity and calculate the total expense it would incur. He would then keep the list in his drawer, offer his prayers to the divine and start consulting patients. He would accept fees from patients till such time the expense (as per the list handed over by wife) for that day gets collected. As soon as the last penny is collected, he would stop accepting fees from the next set of patients. All the remaining consultations were free till the last patient for that day. This was a daily practice for many years - earn till such time his daily expense is covered and then provide free service. Years passed, the doctor continued this unique practice.

His wife would ask him at times as to how he plans to get the house running and investments for his daughter's marriage etc as they would earn only for the day and there weren’t much savings. Doctor with ease and calm would always state that the Divine will take care of things as required and they need not worry. One such day, the doctor gets the list and comes to his clinic, and completes the ritual of reading the list. However this day he is a little startled for a min as the item mentioned in the list looked a bit big. The wife had mentioned Daughters marriage along with the daily list of grocery. After a min doctor quickly gathered his thoughts and told his deity that he will take care of the grocery list, the item about marriage is not for him and it’s for the deity to take care of. He didn’t take even a min extra, simply folded the list - put it in the drawer, and started seeing patients. On the same day, the doctor gets a visitor in his clinic. The visitor had come to invite Doctor for his daughter's marriage in Mumbai. The doctor was amazed as he couldn’t recollect their acquaintance. The visitor patiently narrated that many years back when his car had broken down in front of the doctor's clinic, the Doctor had offered the visitor to wait in his clinic till he arrived. The visitor had observed the unique practice of the Doctor and was amazed to see his philanthropic approach and lack of affinity towards affluence. The visitor's wife didn’t have any child so he chose to consult Doctor for advice and got some medication advice. However, by then the expenses for that day were covered so it was a free consultation. The visitor went back and fortunately wife conceived after a few months. It’s this daughter whose marriage got fixed and the Visitor came to invite Doctor for the ceremony. The doctor was very happy about the Visitor's good fortune and accepted the invitation. The visitor went on to say that he has something more to share and opened the suitcases he had brought along. The doctor was really surprised, suitcases had new bridal clothes, jewelry, and whatnot. The Visitor stated that during his earlier visit he had caught a glimpse of doctor daughter and had calculated that she must have been big enough to get married by now. So while shopping for his own daughter's marriage he had been picking up 2 pairs for everything so that the second pair can go to the Doctor's daughter. He insisted that Doctor accepts the gifts and utilize for his daughter's marriage 😊

This story guiding is a true and inspiring story that reinstated our faith in the Divine - we believe and BE - if we leave everything on the Divine unconditionally, It takes care of everything which we ever need. Aham Brahmasmi
